Sports shorts: Flames rock West to take control of TCAL

Mar. 21—The Lodi High softball team knocked the ball around the park in Wednesday's 16-0 victory at Lodi Softball Complex, outhitting the Wolf Pack 18-2.

The win lifted Lodi to the top of the Tri-City Athletic League standings at 3-0 (and 10-4 overall).

Ashlyn Jubrey started and pitched four innings of shutout ball, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out six batters. Abby Schweigerdt finished the game with two innings of hitless ball with five strikeouts.

At the plate, Janie Schallberger had a triple during her 2-for-4 day with two RBIs and two runs, and Maddie Ehlers had a double as part of her 2-for-3 day, also with two RBIs and two runs. The rest were singles — Kiki Mazza went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, Allison Frank went 3-for-3, Jubrey went 2-for-3 with two runs, Ellie Schallberger went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, Tealla Rivera went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Holly Reich had a single and two RBIs, and Taylor Blank had a single and two runs.

Lodi also won the JV game, 12-0.

On Tuesday, Lodi will face off against Tracy for sole possession of first place in the TCAL. The Bulldogs are 9-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Varsity: Chavez 6, Galt 5

The Warriors scored twice in the top of the seventh inning, but couldn't pull off the rally on Wednesday. Galt (1-6) will host El Dorado on April 3 to open SVC play.


Varsity: Heritage 13, Tokay 1

The Tigers ran afoul a hard-hitting team in Brentwood on Wednesday to fall to 4-6 overall.

Tokay scattered five hits for a single run, with Ryan Oliveri leading the way on a 3-for-3 day. The junior tallied two doubles and scored the Tigers' lone run. Brock Sell and Blake Goen each added a single, and Conner Preap drove in Oliveri.

Tokay will host Sierra today.

JV: Heritage 14, Tokay 0

The JV Tigers also suffered a lopsided loss on Wednesday, with singles from Tyler Cabrera, Evan Dodero, Christian Housken, Josh Thiara and Kolt Aubrey.


Liberty Ranch vs. Rosemont and Bradshaw Christian

The Hawks scored victories in the boys and girls varsity standings, topping Rosemont 64-60 on the boys side, and 67.5-63.5 in the girls.

The Liberty Ranch boys had wins from Kyle Oltmanns in the 1,600 (5:10.57) and the 3,200 (11:19.32), Yousef Diab in the 800 (2:11.94), Larry Lucas in the 110 hurdles (15.93) and the 300 hurdles (43.57), Charles Mejia in the high jump (5-2) and Jimmy Lopez in the pole vault (12-0). The Liberty Ranch girls had wins from Mariah Gonzalez in the 400 (1:10.70), Kaydince Silva in the high jump (4-2), Halle Ory in the pole vault (7-3) and Sophia Felix in the long jump (15-8).

Galt vs. El Dorado

The Warriors lost in the team standings on Wednesday for both varsity boys and girls.

For the varsity boys, Galt had wins from Kitto Gonzalez in the 3,200 at 10:34.40 and Alex Gomez in the discus at 117-9.5, while the Galt girls had wins from Emily Razo in the 3,200 at 14:18.3 and Morgan Jones in the high jump at 4-8.
