Sports shorts: Flames even TCAL record with victory

Jan. 15—Giuseppe Guidi led the Lodi High boys basketball team in Friday's 67-45 victory over Tracy with 17 points, helping Lodi improve to 2-2 in league play, and 13-7 overall.

Sean Tetz added 14 points, Drew Tetz had 12, Noah Rivera scored 11, Ryan Marini had 6, Tyler Carson had 4, Mario Rizzi had 2 and Nathan Morse had 1 points.

Lodi will host St. Mary's on Wednesday.

Varsity girls: Stone Ridge Christian 57, Elliot Christian 55

The Eagles roared back from a 13-point deficit, but couldn't pull off the comeback in Friday's loss.

Bella Perry led Elliot with 21 points and added 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Nena Heiser had 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals, Scarlett Gaither had 8 points and 13 rebounds, Hannah Duncan had 6 points and 10 rebonuds, Marisa Williams and Isabella Ramirez had 2 points each, and Jessica Williams had 6 boards.

Elliot (9-3, 1-1 CCAA) will host Turlock Christian today.

Varsity girls: Liberty Ranch 68, Galt 11

The Hawks stayed undefeated in Sierra Valley Conference play with Friday's blowout victory, led by Haley Smith's 23 points and 5 steals.

Kamrynn Blevins added 11 points for Liberty Ranch, Summer McCoy had 8 points and 7 rebounds, Madisyn Robbins had 7 points, Sophia Felix had 6 points and 7 boards, Kendall Duryee had 4 points and 5 rebounds, Jazleen Sandhu had 4 points, Natalia Escalera had 3 points and 5 rebounds, and Aneesa Barnes had 2 points and 5 rebounds.

Liberty Ranch (17-4, 3-0 SVC) plays at El Dorado today, and Galt (2-17, 1-2) plays at Rosemont.

Varsity boys: Liberty Ranch 47, Galt 37

The Hawks notched their first SVC victory in Friday's win over Galt, improving to 8-13 overall and 1-2 in SVC play. Galt dropped to 3-14 overall, and 0-3 in the SVC.

Galt will host Rosemont today, while Liberty Ranch hosts El Dorado.

Varsity boys: Stone Ridge Christian 95, Elliot Christian 43

Elliot dropped to 0-2 in CCAA play with Friday's loss, and 4-10 overall. The Eagles will host Turlock Christian today.

JV boys: Lodi 47, Tracy 39

Jackson Butler led the Flames with 13 points in Friday's victory, along with 8 from Noah Munoz and 7 from Noah Hufford. Helping on defense were Cooper Mettler and Max Tovar.

On Saturday, the JV Flames played Mountain House in non-league play, winning 69-59 with 21 points from Xavier Davis, 9 from Max Tovar and 8 from Hufford, with strong defense from Mettler and Eli Souza. Lodi is 13-7 this season.


Varsity boys: Tim Brown Memorial

Lodi and Tokay competed in the Tim Brown Memorial Tournament in Sacramento over the weekend, with a number of wrestlers moving on to the second day, though none medaled.

For Lodi, Drew Luiz (122-pound division) and Ethan Warmerdam (134) came a round away from the medal round, with 3-2 record from each. Colin Grant added a 3-2 day 152, Dominic Zazzarino (128) and Zach Kessler (217) each went 2-2, and Wesley Palmer (140) and Drew Wood (192) each went 1-2.

For Tokay, Josiah Garcia (120) went 3-2, while Dominic Ortiz (113), Brevyn Bailey (132), Jason Ramos (138), Shane Sanchez (165), Jason Quinones (175) and Aiden Sweetman (215) each went 2-2, and Alejandro Osorio (126), Julian Napoles (144) and Joey Torres (157) each went 1-2.

Varsity girls: Coast Classic

Lodi High had three medalists in Santa Cruz over the weekend, led by Jocelyn Shelley with a championship in the 117-pound division with a 4-0 record.

At 127, Azaria Biegler went 3-1 for second place, perfect until a loss to Janie Hauser of Aptos in the championship, and at 132, Jayda VanSteenberge went 5-1 for thrid place. Lodi finished with 76 points for eighth place.


Varsity girls: Liberty Ranch 5, Galt 0

The Hawks dominated in Friday's rivalry game, with 3 goals from Maryn Rogers and 2 from Libby Portillo.

Natalie Merlin tallied a pair of assists, along with 1 each from Eliana Enriquez, Ellianna Keiser and Keneddy Arechiga. Goalkeeper Zia Ruppert notched 11 saves for the clean sheet.

Liberty Ranch (6-4-1, 4-0 in the SVC) will host Union Mine today, while Galt (7-4-2, 1-1-1) is at Bradshaw Christian.

Varsity boys: Lodi 1, Tracy 1

The Flames' tie kept them winless in the TCAL with a 0-2-2 record, and 3-11-2 overall. Lodi will play at West on Wednesday.

The JV game went to Tracy, 3-1.

Varsity boys: St. Mary's 2, Tokay 1

The Tigers took their first league loss on Friday, dropping to 2-1-1 (6-7-4 overall). Tokay will host Lincoln on Wednesday.

Tokay won the JV game 3-0.
