Sports shorts: Flames crush Bruins on the diamond

Mar. 22—The Lodi High baseball team already had Thursday's non-league game against Bear Creek in hand before an 11-run seventh inning sealed a 19-1 victory.

Starting pitcher Andrew Fichtner spun another gem with 13 strikeouts, allowing two hits and one run in 5 1/3 innings less than a week after a no-hitter. Slade Schmidt finished the final 1 2/3 scoreless innings with two hits allowed.

At the plate, Lodi had 13 hits, 10 walks and four hit batsmen, while two more batters reached on errors and three reached on fielder's choices. Santino Ramirez went 2-for-2 with a double and three runs, Landon Beasley went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Preston Plath had a double, and singles came from Aiden Abarca, Caiden Andes, Lorenzo Lew, Brent Godina, Joseph Focacci, Luke Leggit, Rylan Takahashi and Fichtner. Takahashi finished with three RBIs and three runs, Leggitt had three runs, and Focacci had three RBIs.

Lodi (5-2) will play at Alameda today, and will play next week at the Christian Brothers Tournament in Sacramento.

Varsity: El Dorado 8, Liberty Ranch 0

The Hawks scattered six hits in Thursday's shutout loss, with doubles from Theodore Seidel and Andrew Guthrie, and singles from Mario Rubalcava, Nolan House, Kade Lecompte and Vance Moe.

Liberty Ranch (5-3, 2-2 SVC) was scheduled to host Center on Friday, and will begin play in the Easter Tournament on Monday with games against Ben Holt and Redwood Christian.

Varsity: Rosemont 13, Galt 8

The Warriors dropped to 2-7 with Thursday's loss, which saw Galt commit seven errors.

Galt will host Livingston in a non-conference game on March 28.

JV: Lodi 6, Bear Creek 3

The Flames' JV squad cruised on Thursday, with a 2-for-3 day from Diego Pantoja had with a double and two runs, a double, two RBIs and two runs from Vinny Casazza, and singles from Gio Pacelli, Jake Focacci, Maddix Diaz, Noah Hufford and Jonathon Trillas. Trillas added a pair of RBIs.

Carson Neugabauer got the win with four innings of work, with three strikeouts and two hits allowed. Jason Crawford and Lucas Crowder made appearances in relief.

JV: Liberty Ranch 12, Venture Academy 2

The JV Hawks improved to 5-3 with Thursday's non-league victory, led by Kade Jaramillo's 3-for-4 day with three RBIs and two runs.

Landon peterson went 2-for-3 with two runs, Jacob Adame had a double, and Eston Tucker had a single.


Varsity: Lincoln 9, Tokay 8

The Trojans rallied with seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to deny the Tigers a victory on Thursday. Tokay (6-3, 1-2 TCAL) will play at Manteca on Monday.

The JV game went to Lincoln, 11-1.

Varsity: Cosumnes Oaks 11, Liberty Ranch 10

The Hawks also lost by a run, with a seventh-inning rally coming up just short.

Khali Barrantes went 3-for-5 for Liberty Ranch with a home run, a double, four RBIs and two runs, while Carlie Perez went 2-for-4, Laura Quinn went 2-for-4 with two runs, Kailynn Castro had a triple, and Cici Lathipanya-Kham, Natalie Vigil, Ysabella Granata and Gracyn Graviette each singled.

Liberty Ranch (2-4) next plays on April 3 at Bradshaw Christian to open SVC play. The JV game went to Liberty Ranch, 25-1.
