Sports: LaPoynor rallies to beat Centerville

Feb. 28—The LaPoynor Flyers took a while to get off the ground, but sailed past Centerville, Tuesday, to earn a berth in the regional tournament in Athens.

Senior Daniel Scott came off the bench to spark the 55-41 comeback win.

The Flyers were down 14 early, but chipped away and held a double digit lead going into the fourth quarter. The Tigers kept the Flyers in sight, but couldn't really challenge the Flyers down the stretch.

The Flyers have bounced back nicely since their district ending losses to Frankston and Martins Mill. They stand at 24-11 going into the regional tournament in Athens.

The regional semifinal game was played at Navarro College.

John Reid's team meets the Shelbyville Dragons, who slipped by a good Timpson team, Tuesday, 53-50.

For the second straight year, the regional tournament features two teams from 19-2A and 23-2A.

Martins Mill was the undefeated champion of 19-2A, while LaPoynor finished third, behind the Mustangs and Frankston.

Beckville finished 12-0 in 23-AA, while Shelbyville was second at 9-3.
