How 'Spiral' coincidentally comments on police brutality

The new Saw film, Spiral, was filmed prior to last year's protests following the murder of George Floyd. And yet some of the movie's observations about policing may seem in tune with ongoing conversations about justice and abuse of power, however coincidental.

Chris Rock, who plays Detective Zeke Banks, told Yahoo Entertainment, "It seems very timely. So now in the movie, it actually is better than if it would've came out pre-pandemic."

"I think one of the things, however, that was important to all of us was to not cast a light saying that all police are bad," said director Darren Lynn Bousman. "It was though the idea of an institution that this time our killer was not going after necessarily an individual, but a bigger idea."
