The Louisiana teen joined NBC’s TODAY Show Friday morning to talk about becoming the first African American winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. She explained that her win came from “a lotta, lotta hard work… and also a bit of luck.”

But she also discussed how she is currently the holder of three Guinness World Records involving dribbling and juggling.

Avant-garde says she hopes to play basketball for Harvard and go onto play in the WNBA. She also has aspirations of working at NASA someday or becoming a basketball coach.

Congrats Zaila Avant-garde on winning the Scripps National Spelling Bee! We can’t wait to see what’s next.
