Southern edges Keyser in OT; Frankfort, Northern win; Hampshire falls

Feb. 5—KEYSER, W.Va. — Keyser banked in a 3-pointer to force overtime, but No. 5 Southern hit just enough foul shots in the extra period to win 56-49 on Monday night.

Southern (11-6) never trailed, leading 12-3 after the first quarter, 23-9 at the half and 33-26 entering the fourth. However, Keyser's Jack Stanislawczyk made a 3-pointer to level the score at 45 at the end of regulation.

Southern controlled the overtime 11-4, scoring all 11 points at the foul line in 14 attempts. Isaiah Keller made all six of his tries and finished 7 for 7 for the game to score a game-high 21 points. Keller also made four 3-pointers.

Jared Haskiell and Noah Wilt added 11 points each, and Braige Hardesty chipped in eight, making 6 of 8 free throws.

Southern was 22 for 29 at the line as a team, and Keyser struggled once again at the stripe, converting just 14 of its 28 chances.

Jace Courrier paced Keyser with 12 points, Evan Ack added 11 and Drew Matlick scored nine.

Southern was at Broadfording on Tuesday and hosts Northern (9-9) on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

No. 4 Frankfort 66 Berkeley Springs 60

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Landen Schetrompf got hot making six 3-pointers after halftime to get Berkeley Springs back in the game, but Frankfort executed late to hold on Monday for its eighth consecutive win.

The Falcons (11-5) haven't lost since Jan. 3 at Trinity.

Frankfort trailed 10-9 after the first quarter until taking a 32-23 lead into the half. Its lead stood at nine points entering the fourth at 47-39, and the Falcons made 9 of 10 foul shots in the decider to ice the game.

Cam Layton paced Frankfort with a game-high 21 points, Jake Layton scored 14, Bryson Mckenzie added nine and Uriah Cutter scored eight.

Schetrompf topped the Indians with 20 points, scoring all 20 after halftime. He made four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Also scoring in double figures for Berkeley Springs was Dakota Hamerick with 12 points.

Berkeley Springs won the junior varsity game 53-45. Kycin Waites (19 points) and Ethan Talley (12) led the Falcons' JVs.

Frankfort is at No. 3 Allegany (13-3) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Northern 64 Shanksville 46

ACCIDENT — Liam Stewart hit five 3-pointers, leading Northern to a win over Shanksville (Pa.) on Monday.

Stewart scored a game-high 16 points for the Huskies (9-9).

Alex Knauff added nine points and Abe Schilpp and Luke Ross each had seven.

Christian Musser led Shanksville with 13 points.

Braxton Newman scored 12 for the Vikings.

The Huskies led 13-10 after one quarter, 30-22 at halftime and 49-35 after three quarters.

Northern took the junior varsity game 41-21 led by Jayden McNally's 11 points.

The Huskies head to Oakland for a Garrett County matchup with No. 5 Southern on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Elkins 59 Hampshire 50

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Despite 20 points from Jenson Fields, Hampshire fell to Elkins on Monday night.

The Trojans led 12-11 after the first quarter, during which Fields scored 10 of his team-high total, but Elkins led 24-19 at the half and 44-37 after three periods.

Brock Holland scored a game-high 22 points for Elkins, making five 3-pointers, and DJ Louk also ended in double figures with 10 points.

Matt Medina joined Fields in double figures for Hampshire with 12 points.

The Trojans won the junior varsity game 54-44 behind 13 points from Vinnie Greear. Landen Shreve scored 16 for Elkins.

Hampshire (5-12) hosted Class A No. 1 Tucker County on Tuesday and hosts Berkeley Springs on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
