Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Saturday's high school action on the SouthCoast.
Old Rochester’s Jen Williams set a meet record during Saturday’s 12th Sunset Track & Field Invitational at GNB Voc-Tech, clocking a winning time of 14.83 in the 110 hurdles. Other winners for the Bulldogs were Maggie Brogioli in the high jump (5-00), Murray Copps in the mile (4:44.33) and Colby Gross in the 400 (50.16). For Wareham, Ben Brogioli took first in the triple jump (41-00.50) and Garrett Goodman won the discus (136-01). Apponequet’s Logan Miller won the javelin (153-00) while GNB Voc-Tech’s Diana Jesus took first in the shot put (38-03) and teammate Daniel Ward won the 400 hurdles (1:00.13).
MSTCA Freshman-Sophomore Invitational
Wareham sophomore Diego Mello earned fourth place in the 400 hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:00.81. Wareham sophomore Aiden Robert took second in the 110 hurdles (16.18).
Bishop Stang 3, Archbishop Williams 0
With a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning with one out, Brayden Bennett hit a hard ground ball single to left followed by a line drive to left from Adyn Simmons. Then with two outs, Cam Letourneau lined a double to right center to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead. Seamus Marshall followed with a line drive to right field to score Letourneau for the third run of the inning. Letourneau went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Bennett (1-for-2 with a run scored), Simmons (1-for-1 with a walk and run scored), Marshall (1-for-3 with an RBI) and Aiden Cardoza (1-for-3) contributed. Jacob Laudati got the win for Stang (9-1, 7-1 CCL), striking out seven with three walks and no runs over seven innings to run his record to 3-0 on the season with a 0 ERA.
Apponequet 15, Dighton-Rehoboth 9
Abby Vincent led the Lakers with six goals while Riley Levrault, Emilia Keane and Celia Hiller each had three goals. Allison Arruda made 10 saves in net for the Lakers (7-3).
Dighton-Rehoboth 9, Apponequet 8
Leading the way for Apponequet (7-2, 5-2 SCC) was Vinny Olivieri with three goals. Jake Cusson (one goal, two assists), Harrison Lemieux (one goal, two assists), Sean DelGuidice (one goal, one assist), Kenny Wisniewski (one goal) and Justyn Hooper (one goal) also contributed on offense while Hunter Owen made nine saves.
Bishop Stang 16, Falmouth Academy 11
Breck Marshall led the Spartans with six goals on Friday while Noah Grigson scored five. Eli Ikella, Andrew Weaver, Connor Fitzpatrick, Ryan Witkowski and Marco Melo had one goal apiece. Mike Jones made seven saves.
SCC Tennis Tournament
Wareham’s doubles team of Olivia Powers and Mackenzie Brodley kept their undefeated streak alive with a competitive win in the final over Old Rochester’s doubles team of Erin Besancon and Mack Wilson. No. 1 seeded Brooklyn Bindas of Wareham and No. 2 Kaydin Pinto of Fairhaven will play in the singles final at a Wareham on a date to be determined.
