After South Florida’s big chill, you can expect cool evening weather this week

You can expect nighttime lows in the 60s across South Florida the rest of this week after the coldest weather of the year swept through the region.

After lows in the upper-40s early Tuesday, the temps should rise into the mid-70s during the day. And on Tuesday night, there should be lows in the mid-60s, with showers likely, according to the National Weather Service in Miami. It’s forecast to drop into the 50s on Friday night, the weather service said.

The cool weather come after we saw temperatures plunge to the 30s and 40s overnight Sunday into Monday, as a sheet of frigid air from the north brought the cold weather.

The lowest temperatures in the metro area hit the area of Loxahatchee and Palm Beach Gardens in western Palm Beach County, which saw overnight temperatures reach only 38 degrees, with the low edging down to 37 degrees farther west.

Western Broward County cities saw the mercury dip to 43 degrees, Fort Lauderdale hit 44 degrees, downtown Miami hit 45 degrees and the West Palm Beach area fell to 41 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.

Although the low temperatures Sunday night didn’t set any records, they appear to have been the coldest of the year, said Shawn Bhatti, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

“Of our so-called winter here, it’s probably been our coldest day,” he said.
