South Carolina football announces game times, TV networks for first three games of 2023

COLUMBIA — South Carolina football will open the 2023 season on Sept. 2 with a 7:30 p.m. game against North Carolina at the Carolina Panthers' Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. It will air on ABC.

On Wednesday, the SEC announced kickoff times and TV broadcasts for the first three weeks of the season. Arrangements for other games will be announced during the season.

On Sept. 9 the Gamecocks face Furman at Williams-Brice Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on SEC Network+. The two teams have only met twice before in 2010 and 2014, and South Carolina won both times by a double-digit margin.

South Carolina begins SEC play against Georgia on Sept. 16 in Athens. The matchup kicks off at 3:30 p.m. and will air on CBS Sports as the first game of the 2023 SEC on CBS partnership. It will be one of 15 SEC games aired on the network this season. The Gamecocks were blown out by the reigning national champions 48-7 in Columbia last season.

In the second year under coach Shane Beamer, South Carolina finished the 2022 season at 8-5, its winningest record since 2017. The Gamecocks pulled off two of the biggest upsets of the year in the final two weeks of the regular season, first knocking off then-No. 5 Tennessee 63-38 a week after scoring just six points against Florida.

The team went on to upset then-No. 8 Clemson 31-30 for the first time since 2013. The Gamecocks ended the Tigers' 40-game home winning streak and earned their first top-20 in the Associated Press and USA TODAY coaches' polls ranking since 2014.

South Carolina ended the season on a 45-38 loss to Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl.
