His recovery timetable is still being determined.
Barton, 27, was injured after converting a reverse layup in the third quarter during Saturday’s win over the Phoenix Suns.
The Nuggets’ starting small forward collapsed to the floor in agonizing pain and was escorted off the court in a wheelchair.
He had 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting in 19 minutes of play.
Barton signed a four-year, $54 million deal with Denver in the offseason after averaging 15.7 points, five rebounds and 4.1 assists for the Nuggets last year. He is in his seventh NBA season after being a second-round draft selection out of Memphis in 2012.
