It looks like there's a bit more to the Marc Colombo firing story than there first appeared to be.

Colombo and Joe Judge did indeed have their big argument last Tuesday night, but sources have confirmed to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano that while the decision to fire Colombo came that same night, Colombo did not learn of the news until arriving to the team facility the next morning.

The two had agreed to separate and not let things escalate that night, and would speak again the next morning, but the decision to fire Colombo was made up before the sun came up Wednesday morning.

Per Vacchiano, it was upper management, not Judge, that let HR and security handle the firing the next morning. Colombo came the facility for work Wednesday, was informed by them that he'd been fired, and left without any further incident.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora first reported the news of Colombo learning of his firing on Wednesday.
