Sources: Bulls claim former Laker David Nwaba off waivers
The Chicago Bulls have claimed free agent David Nwaba off waivers, league sources told The Vertical.
The Los Angeles Lakers waived Nwaba in order to free salary space to sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to a one-year, $18 million deal.
Nwaba, 24, was called up to the Lakers last season and averaged six points and 3.2 rebounds in 20 games. The Lakers, who were intrigued with Nwaba’s development and defensive abilities, understood the possibility he could be claimed off waivers.
Nwaba played for the Lakers’ affiliate, South Bay, before signing a two-year deal with the Lakers. He went undrafted in 2016 after collegiate stops at Division II Hawaii Pacific and Santa Monica College and he transferred to finish his career at Cal Poly.
Nwaba has a guaranteed minimum contract for next season.
