Sooners offer trio of top-100 2024 defensive prospects from California

The Oklahoma Sooners are putting the finishing touches on their 2022 recruiting class. And while they look to close out the cycle with a bang, the Sooners are looking ahead to 2023 and 2024 as well. They got a commitment from the top quarterback in the state of Texas on Monday in Jackson Arnold.

Brent Venables and his coaching staff have been on the road looking to open up new recruiting grounds in Texas and California.

On Tuesday, Venables and his staff were in California visiting St. John Bosco and they made several offers while they were there.

The Sooners offered safety Peyton Woodyard, cornerback Marcelles Williams, and linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. Each player is considered a four-star defender early in the 2024 cycle by 247Sports for St. John Bosco.

Woodyard is currently the No. 20 player in the 2024 class and the No. 2 safety prospect. Williams is considered the No. 70 player and No. 8 cornerback in the class. Viliamu-Asa is ranked No. 10 in the country, is the No. 2 linebacker in the country, and is 247Sports No. 1 player in the state of California.

Each of these prospects is a top 100 player in the class and ranks within the top 10 in the state of California.

Brent Venables’ presence with the Oklahoma Sooners has given them inroads into Florida recruiting from his time at Clemson. He’s also been successful in recruiting in Texas in his short time in Norman. Now he’s making his way out west to keep Oklahoma’s footprint in the state of California strong as well.

With his defensive chops and the eventual move to the SEC, Venables has a strong hand to play as he ventures into Pac-12 country.
