Sooners fall on senior night to No. 11 South Dakota State

Feb. 9—Oklahoma suffered its third straight dual loss on Friday on senior night to No. 12 South Dakota State.

The Sooners got their first win of the dual in the 133 weight class as Jace Koelzer beat Derrick Cardinal in a 4-0 decision.

The Jackrabbits retook the lead in the next match when Clay Carlson defeated Carter Schmidt by technical fall.

Willie McDougald (149) and Gerrit Nijenhuis (165) each won by decision and Josh Heindselman (285) won by major decision, but the Jackrabbits won four other matches to secure the win.

The 20-13 loss is the Sooners' third straight against top 25 opponents.

Stephen Buchanan, who entered the match ranked No. 2 in the 197 weight class and 18-0, suffered his first loss of the season in a 4-1 decision.

Heindelsman, ranked 12th nationally, improved to 18-4 on the season with a 14-6 win over Luke Rasmussen.

The Sooners prepare to close the regular season in Stillwater for Bedlam next weekend. The Cowboys beat the Sooners in Norman earlier this season and has won 18-straight Bedlam matchups.
