Somerset wins 12th Region All "A" Classic

Mar. 28—Chaos was in store on Wednesday as the Somerset Briar Jumpers hosted the Danville Admirals in the championship game of the 12th Region All "A" Classic. After the Jumpers had led after a three-run fourth inning, the Admirals tied it up in the final inning with five runs, putting pressure on Somerset to win or the game would be going into extra innings with Danville having the momentum. However, the Jumpers were able to protect their home field, with Griffin Loy hitting a walk-off single to bring home the game-winning run in Isaiah Lewis, giving Somerset a 6-5 win over Danville and thus the 12th Region All "A" crown.

Loy led the way with two RBI's in the win, with Cayden Cimala, Blake Abbott and Connor Roberts each picking up a single RBI apiece. Caynon Sizemore, Connor Vanderploeg and Lewis each had a hit. Kole Grundy had two stolen bases in the contest, with Lewis also stealing once. Cimala earned the victory on the mound, pitching six and two-third innings while allowing three runs on one hit with four walks and seven strikeouts. Danville was led by junior Fox Spears with two RBI's.

Somerset improves to 7-3 for the season and will next travel to East Jessamine to take on the Jaguars on Thursday, before they have a week off until their next contest due to Spring Break.
