Somerset survives Wayne for first win

Mar. 15—The Somerset Lady Jumpers were hopeful for their first victory of the season on Thursday evening, as they welcomed in Wayne County to their home turf. Both teams struggled with scoring early on, as the Jumpers had the lone run through the first three innings. After a fifth inning that saw the teams combine for nine runs, Somerset held off a Wayne County rally in the seventh and sealed a 9-7 victory to get their first win of the 2024 campaign.

Sarah White and Mollie Lucas each had three RBI's to lead the Jumpers, with Aleah Wesley and Jazlynn Shadoan each contributing one RBI apiece. Gracie Prichard and Makenna Baker each had two hits in the ball game, with Baker and Lucas each hitting a double. White also had three stolen bases in the game. Addy White earned her first victory on the mound, pitching five and two-third innings while allowing six hits and three runs to go along with six strikeouts. Madisyn Robertson closed the game, allowing four hits and four runs in one and one-third innings of work with two strikeouts. Five different players for Wayne County had RBI's, with junior Breanna Burnette hitting a home run.

Somerset improves to 1-1 and will travel to West Jessamine to take on the Colts on Saturday at noon.
