Somerset falls just short against Wayne County

Mar. 22—After falling in their last outing, the Somerset Briar Jumpers made the trip down to Monticello to take on the Wayne County Cardinals. Somerset took an early 4-0 lead but were at the wrong end of a rally late in the game, with the Cardinals scoring three runs in the sixth to defeat Somerset 6-5.

The Jumpers were led by Connor Vanderploeg with two RBI's, with Caynon Sizemore, Kole Grundy and Connor Roberts each getting a single RBI apiece. Cayden Cimala, Blake Abbott, Isaiah Lewis and Raygan New also each got a hit in the game. New pitched four innings and had the loss, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out six batters. Wayne County was led by two RBI's apiece from senior Dylan Tucker and freshman Palmer Smith.

Somerset falls to 4-2 and will travel to Corbin on Friday. They will then face off against South Warren and Estill County at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m respectively.
