Softball Round-up: Eagles win, Stars fall

Mar. 20—The Western Boone and Zionsville softball teams got their seasons underway on Tuesday night.

The Eagles came away with a 10-0 win at Danville, while Western Boone fell to Noblesville 13-3.


The Stars fell behind 7-0 in the opening two innings against the Millers on Tuesday.

WeBo got on the board with an RBI-single from Ally Lewis in the third, but left the bases loaded.

The Stars cut into the lead a little more in the fourth, with Mickayla Naanos driving in two runs with a single with two outs.

But in the top of the fifth, the Milers took advantage of a couple of Star errors to score six runs and finished the game in the next half inning.

Kirstin McCormick was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Stars. Emma Shirley, Gabby Lewis, Naanos, Ally Lewis and Mickey Burns all had hits. Morganne Grant drew two walks.

Western Boone faces Sheridan on Thursday.


The Eagles got it down at the plate and with their pitching against Danville on Tuesday.

Leah Helton threw a 1-hitter in the circle, striking out nine.

She also went 2-for-4 with a home run and a triple at the plate.

After a scoreless first inning, Zionsville got on the board with an RBI single from Sylvia Mudis.

Charli Westerfield made it 2-0 in the third with an RBI single.

Zionsville broke it open in the fifth. Helton hit a lead-off home run, and four batters later with a runner on and two outs, Hadley Bray homered to make it 5-0.

Abbie Geib hit a 2-run Homer in the sixth, with Emma Vargo adding an RBI double later in the inning. RBIs from Tess Bradford and Helton in the seventh capped the scoring.

Mudis went 3-for-4 in the game. Helton, Geib and Vargo all had two hits.
