Softball: JHS beats Brook Hill in season opener; Gonzalez throws no-hitter

Feb. 14—BULLARD — Jacksonville and Brook Hill opened the 2024 softball season Tuesday evening in Bullard with the Maidens walking away with a 16-0 win over the Lady Guard.

Hannah Gonzalez pitched a no-hitter (4 innings, mercy rule), struck out seven and walked two for the Maidens, who will be playing in the Carthage Tournament beginning Thursday.

Jacksonville erupted for 13 runs on five hits in the third inning in defeating the Lady Guard.

Mahala Sotelo and Gonzalez each tripled and drove in three runs for the Maidens.

Kendi Canady had a base hit and drove in a pair of runs while reaching base on walks in two additional trips to the plate.

Karmen Miller went the distance in the circle for Brook Hill. All of the Jacksonville runs were unearned.

Brook Hill committed 10 errors behind Miller in the game that Jacksonville was able to take advantage of.

The Lady Guard will host Van on Tuesday, February 20.
