Softball: Jefferson scores a run in bottom of 7th to nip Troup, 3-2

Mar. 6—JEFFERSON — With the game knotted 2-2, Jefferson's Karly Long stroked a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning that drove in the winning run in the Lady Bulldogs' 3-2 triumph over Troup.

The game was the district opener for both clubs.

Troup (9-6, 0-1) led 1-0 after batting in the fifth inning. The Lady Bulldogs (9-7, 1-0) answered by sending two runners in to score in the home half of the frame.

The Lady Tigers tied the game, 2-2, after plating a single run in the top of the sixth.

Shiloh Sluder (2-3, two doubles) and Taylor Gillispie (2-3) were the leading hitters for the Lady Tigers, who host Tatum at 6 p.m. Friday.

MaKayla Spencer blasted a double and drove in a run for the Lady Tigers while Bailey Blanton ripped a two base knock.

Gillispie went the distance in the circle for Troup and gave up three earned runs on two hits. She struck out 16 and walked eight.

Maddie Cooner collected a pair of doubles in three official trips to the dish for Jefferson.
