Softball: Gillispie fans 12 in Troup's 2-1 win over Malakoff

Mar. 1—TYLER — Makayla Spencer dropped down a well-placed sacrifice bunt to the right side of the infield that scored Shiloh Sluder from third base in the bottom of the fifth inning as Troup clipped Malakoff, 2-1, in the Rose City Classic Friday.

Sluder crushed a triple up-the-middle to get aboard earlier in the segment.

Troup's first run came when Bailey Blanton stole home with two outs in the fourth inning, giving the Maroon and White a 1-0 advantage. A base hit to center enabled Blanton to reach base.

Troup batters had their power strokes working for them as four of Troup's eight hits were of the extra-base variety.

Sydnie Dickey belted a triple while Hannah Cearley and Carli Hays crushed doubles, respectively.

Troup-ace Taylor Gillispie pitched a complete game and was the winning pitcher. She didn't allow an earned run, surrendered three hits over six frames, struck out a dozen and walked three.

Troup will return to Tyler Saturday for the final day of tournament play. Game times and opponents are to be determined.
