Feb. 2—Coaches have high expectations for the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma softball team once again.
The Sooner Athletic Conference released its annual preseason poll, and the Drovers got voted as the top team in the conference. The coaches from the conference voted in the poll and favored the Drovers over second-place Oklahoma City University.
Science & Arts also enters the season as one of the top teams in the NAIA's preseason poll. Science & Arts is currently ranked sixth in the NAIA and is one of two SAC teams ranked in the top 10 of the NAIA.
OCU is currently ranked ninth.
The Drovers have a group of returners from last year's team and an influx of new talent on this year's roster. The team also has a coaching staff with plenty of championship experience.
The Drovers are coming off of a season in which they went 42-15 and advanced to the NAIA Softball World Series once again. The 2023 season also included a conference title.
After finishing second in the SAC during the regular season, the Drovers took care of business in the conference tournament and captured the tournament championship before going 3-0 in the Opening Round to secure a spot in the World Series.
The Drovers begin their season in Texas on Feb. 9.
