Last Season Poor Andre Ayew. Last summer’s ‘blockbuster’ transfer for West Ham United hasn’t been able to catch a break since joining the Hammers for a record fee. Between injuries and the Africa Cup of Nations, Ayew’s place in the lineup has been anything but stable. However, his form towards the closing of the season, once he was settled, might have given us a glimpse into what Andre can bring to the table. Even in a limited capacity, due to injury or international obligations, Ayew still managed to grab six goals and three assists on the year. The negative side of that coin is there should have been way more as Andre Ayew found himself on plenty of Youtube highlight reels for Miss of the Year.
West Bromwich Albion are reportedly ready to make a third bid in their ongoing attempts to sign Middlesbrough and England centre-back Ben Gibson, with the Baggies having apparently already ready seen two offers rejected by the recently relegated side. According to the Daily Mirror, West Brom are looking at potentially paying £20m for Gibson, a fee that would make the 24-year-old a huge new record buy for the club. Tony Pulis has added towering Egyptian centre-back Ahmed Hegazy to his squad so far this summer after securing a loan from Al Ahly. But it is a position that needs further strengthening after the departure Jonas Olsson last season and rumoured Leicester interest in Jonny Evans. Manchester
After a muted end to last week - one which had promised much - Sunderland’s transfer business looks to be hotting up, with boss Simon Grayson hoping to close off a couple of key deals during the course of the next few days. Reports that Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban is expected on Wearside today to conclude talks about a season-long loan move are now widespread. Grabban appears to fit the mould currently being utilised by Grayson, for experienced players somewhere in their late 20’s to early 30’s with some Championship pedigree and a career to kick-start as the model by which to fill out his squad. The much-travelled forward has never quite made the grade in his flirtations with the Premier League but he has a decent track-record in extended patches in the second and third tiers of English football.
