In moments when your team snatches defeat from the jaws of victory your hands go up on your head and your mouth drops open, stunned. You have become the surrender cobra. This wild beast is a regular at college sporting events, but you’ve probably done it yourself. You just may have done it when Orlando City scored (I did). Here you can see a half-dozen Portland Timbers fans in the pose. The much rarer surrender cobra is the one by a player — in this case Timbers keeper Jake Gleeson is spotted. Toronto, Chicago and SKC continue runs atop MLS Power Rankings

It's mostly "as you were" for the Power Rankings this week. Toronto FC maintained the top spot with a gritty win, while Chicago and Sporting Kansas City kept pace with impressive victories of their own. 1. The Seattle Sounders get only a couple of days to relax before they hit the pitch again. This time around it’s Round of 16 action of the 2017 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup against the San Jose Earthquakes. To get here, the Sounders defeated the Portland Timbers 2-1 in the fourth round a few weeks ago, while the Earthquakes knocked off the San Francisco Deltas with two quick goals within the first six minutes of the match. This will be the third time since 2012 the Sounders and San Jose have faced off in the Open Cup. The last time was in 2014, when the Sounders won in a penalty shootout on the way to their fourth Open Cup trophy. In 2012, it was the “Battle of Kezar”, seen via a mixture of question
