MILAN (AP) AC Milan’s problems with consistency continued as a poor performance saw it lose 2-0 at Sampdoria in Serie A on Sunday. Milan didn’t even have a shot on target as late goals from Duvan Zapata and substitute Ricky Alvarez condemned the Rossoneri to its second defeat of the season. “Samp was superior to us and deserved the victory,” Milan coach Vincenzo Montella said.
Napoli forward Arkadiusz Milik could face knee surgery for a second consecutive season. The Poland international limped off during the closing stages of Saturday's 3-2 win at SPAL, where Maurizio Sarri's men extended their 100 per cent start in Serie A. Milik's debut campaign in Naples was hindered by cruciate ligament damage sustained on international duty last October and, although he told reporters after the match his latest setback is "not like last time", the club refused to rule out the surgical route after initial tests on the 23-year-old.
Rather than reducing the number of teams in Serie A, international fixtures need to be better planned to deal with player workloads, Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri said ahead of his team's Champions League match against Feyenoord on Tuesday. Italian FA president Carlo Tavecchio and Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri are among those who would like to cut the number of teams in Italy’s top flight.
