Inter Milan believe they can match the achievements of Manchester United, having resisted interest from the Premier League giants in star attacker Ivan Perisic. The Croatia international was reportedly the subject of a number of bids from Old Trafford during the transfer window, but Inter held firm and tied Perisic to a new five-year contract after the deadline passed. Perisic has begun the season in fine form, scoring three goals in five Serie A games as Inter aim for a return to the Champions League picture.
Champions Juventus and Napoli pulled clear at the summit of Serie A as they continued their faultless campaigns on Wednesday as Inter Milan fell behind. Croatia forward Mario Mandzukic scored for Juventus in a 1-0 win over old foes Fiorentina in Turin as Napoli rallied from a goal down to beat Lazio 4-1 in Rome. Juventus and Napoli have a maximum 15 points after five games, two ahead of Inter Milan who were held 1-1 at Bologna on Tuesday.
Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio says the club never received a transfer bid from Manchester United for winger Ivan Perisic. The Red Devils were rumoured to be interested in the Croatia international throughout the summer but a deal failed to materialise, with Perisic instead playing a main role in Inter's positive start to the season. Despite United being heavily linked with a move away, Perisic stayed at the San Siro and Ausilio has revealed he never entertained a potential bid from Jose Mourinho's side. He told Premium Sport, as quoted by Sempre Inter: “He already had a contract, we never declined any offer from Manchester United but instead we worked to convince him to stay and
