Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has expressed his frustration that a move to Real Madrid failed to materialise. Last season's Bundesliga top scorer was widely tipped to leave Dortmund after the 2016-17 campaign, with clubs all over Europe and in China credited with interest. Aubameyang made no secret of his desire to join the Blancos, but the Gabon international wound up staying put at Dortmund as Madrid decided not to spend big to replace the departing Alvaro Morata.
Diego Costa will end his stand-off with Chelsea and Antonio Conte by returning to Atletico Madrid in January. The Spain striker helped Atleti to a remarkable LaLiga triumph in 2013-14, having scooped the Copa del Rey the previous season. Costa is far from the first player to have succumbed to the lure of their old club, with plenty of stars having felt it irresistible to go back to what they know.
Mauricio Pochettino admits Mousa Dembele’s game time is being carefully managed, in consultation with the Belgian, as Tottenham prepare to visit West Ham in Saturday’s London derby. Dembele has a long-term foot problem which left him playing through the pain barrier at the end of last term. Tellingly, the 30-year-old is yet to start two games in the space of a week for the Lilywhites this campaign.
