Nemanja Matic’s £40 million move to Manchester United looks to be edging closer after Tiemoue Bakayoko reportedly traveled to London for a medical at Chelsea on Tuesday. Bakayoko, the 22-year-old midfielder from Monaco, is seen as Matic’s replacement at Stamford Bridge, and his arrival will open the way for United to confirm the signing of the Serbian. According to France’s RTL via Metro, Bakayoko is in London to complete a £36.7 million move from Monaco to the Premier League champions, in what would be Antonio Conte’s first signing of the summer.
Schalke have reiterated that Germany international Leon Goretzka will remain at the Veltins Arena this season despite links with Bayern Munich. Goretzka, 22, is under contract at Schalke until 2018 and has so far not agreed to an extension. The midfielder has strongly been linked with a switch to Bayern, who could wait to sign the player on a free transfer next summer. Schalke have in the past said they do not fear losing Goretzka without a transfer fee and, speaking at the club's AGM on Sunday, sporting executive Christian Heidel said: "We will go into an exciting season with [long-term injury absentee] Breel Embolo and Leon Goretzka." Besiktas say Manchester United will not be able to sign Anderson Talisca from Benfica because they have activated a clause to loan him for another season. Attacking midfielder Talisca said earlier this month it was his dream to play for United and claimed Jose Mourinho wanted to sign him.
