    Hendricks carries shutout into 8th, Cubs blank Cardinals 3-0

    Kyle Hendricks carried a shutout into the eighth inning and Nico Hoerner homered to help the Chicago Cubs to a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night. Ian Happ also drove in a run for Chicago, which has won two of three. Hendricks (3-6) continued his mastery over the Cardinals, who had won 12 of the previous 17 against the Cubs.

    Vonn urges athletes use platform for good 'especially today'

    Lindsey Vonn used her induction speech into the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame on Friday to urge athletes to put their platform to good use, “especially today,” the day the Supreme Court overturned the landmark ruling that guaranteed a women's constitutional right to abortion. Vonn joined Michael Phelps, Billie Jean King, Michelle Kwan, Mia Hamm and the late Pat Summitt among the inductees into the Class of 2022. Vonn gave a special nod to her mother, Linda Krohn, who is battling ALS.

    Avs can't close out Lightning in Game 5 loss at Ball Arena

    It's back to the slushy ice of Amalie Arena for the Colorado Avalanche after they failed to close out the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final. The Lightning overpowered Colorado with tougher physicality, clogged the neutral zone and once again relied on goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy's firebolt reflexes to counter Colorado's superior speed in a 3-2 victory in Game 5 on Friday night at Ball Arena. Coach Jon Cooper found a way for the Lightning to finally bottle up Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen to send the series back to Tampa with a chance to tie it up in Game 6 on Sunday night.
