In the last two editions of "If it continued..." we've joked about Inter fans taking their obscene and unrelenting hatred of Mario Balotelli, who was accosted by a hoard of angry fans as he tried to leave the first leg of Inter's Champions League tie with Barcelona, to the levels of blowing up his car or burning down his house. Well, sadly, it turns out we weren't too far off. Says Balotelli's agent, Mino Raiola:
“A few days ago Mario found that someone had loosened the wheel nuts on his car. If someone isn’t careful, he risks getting killed on the motorway.
“We certainly cannot carry on like this. In these circumstances Mario will not remain for another year at Inter, I can guarantee that.”
Between the racial abuse and now an attempt on his life, Balotelli shouldn't even wait until next season -- he should leave the country now. There are plenty of big clubs elsewhere that would love to have him, with fans who won't be quite as racist or conspire to try and cause him physical harm for wearing a rival's shirt on a comedy show or throwing his own on the pitch after getting jeering for little to no reason. It's a shame, but that's how it is. This isn't a fight for a 19-year-old.
