SOCCER: Smith leads Fightin' Chicks to district win

Apr. 13—Ceatin Smith made a difference.

The Chickasha boys soccer team hosted Madill in another crucial District 4A-1 matchup Friday and battled to keep pace in a convoluted 4A-1 standings race. The team secured an important 2-1 victory over the Wildcats, and Smith was a common thread that connected the two goals.

Smith assisted the team's first goal before burying what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the second half. Following a header that directed the ball toward the goal, Smith smashed the ball past Madill's keeper to give Chickasha a 2-1 lead.

The Fightin' Chicks did not give up the lead again after Madill came up with an equalizer earlier in the match.

Smith's hard work helped Chickasha grab a first-half lead. On that goal, he beat an opposing player to the ball in the box and used his head to get the ball in front of the keeper.

A Chickasha player, Blayden Fewell, ended up on the end of that header. He redirected the ball from Smith into the goal to give Chickasha the 1-0 advantage.

Madill then tied the match later in the half, but Chickasha ended up being too much for the Wildcats.

The win moved the Fightin' Chicks to 11-2 on the season and moved them to 4-1 in district play ahead of their final two district matches. Three teams ended Friday 4-1 within the district.
