Smith: Celtics’ Nigel Hayes pursuit may come down to availability of guaranteed roster spot
According to Yahoo Sports’ Keith Smith, the Boston Celtics reported interest in EuroLeague wing Nigel Hayes may come down to whether the team has an available, fully-guaranteed roster spot.
The 6-foot-8 swingman worked out with the team recently, and there are multiple reports of mutual interest between Hayes and the Celtics. The sharpshooting Wisconsin product has competitive offers in Europe per multiple sources, suggesting more than a two way spot would need to be offered to the former Badger to secure his services in Boston for 2020-21.
Given the Celtics’ offseason could well see some consolidation around the edges of the roster, there may be space for the Ohio native yet beyond that created by the potential exit of a number of rotational free agents.
Per a source: There is mutual interest between the Boston Celtics and Nigel Hayes. It may come down to Boston having a guaranteed roster spot to offer Hayes. Celtics are tight on roster spots and Hayes has good offers overseas if he doesn't have a guaranteed spot in the NBA.

Having averaged 9.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 44.3% from beyond the arc last season with Lithuanian club Zalgiris, the interest from Boston is obvious given he plays a position of need for the team.
