SMALL SCHOOL PREVIEW: Locals fighting for playoff spots in final two games
Oct. 26—The Miners are hitting the road as the district-deciding window is beginning to close.
Hartshorne is taking its final road trip of the regular season Friday, as the Miners will face off against Allen.
The Mustangs (5-3, 3-2) sit at fourth place in the district standings behind Hartshorne following last week's win over Savanna. Meanwhile, the Miners (5-3, 4-1) are tied in second place in the district after their 30-8 win over Konawa.
Although a litany of scenarios exist that could shuffle the District A-6 teams of the Miners, Liberty, Allen, and Mounds around in the second- through fifth-place slots, a win for Hartshorne would set up a district-deciding duel at home against Liberty in the regular-season finale — with the victor moving into possession of sole second place to propel into the playoffs.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
PORUM AT QUINTON (Thursday)
Quinton will host Porum Thursday in a district showdown to solidify a spot in the playoffs.
Porum (2-6, 0-3) is coming off a loss to Webbers Falls last week, placing the team into fifth behind Quinton.
The green machine (4-4, 1-2) are looking to bounce back after last week's loss at No. 2 Dewar. Quinton sits in fourth place in District B-5, and a victory over Porum would ensure a spot in the postseason.
A win for Quinton would also set up a regular-season final game against Webbers Falls, with the potential of the winner of that game moving up into the third-place slot.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
IDABEL AT WILBURTON
Wilburton will host Idabel Friday alongside Senior Night festivities in the Diggers' final home game of the season.
Idabel (7-0, 5-0) is coming off a major home win against Antlers last week, looking to solidify its spot atop the District 2A-6 standings as it sits tied with Eufaula.
The Diggers (0-8, 0-5) are coming off a tough battle against Heavener last week, but are looking to make one final push in their final game at Seldon D. Taylor Field in 2023.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
KONAWA AT SAVANNA
Savanna will play host to Konawa Friday alongside Senior Night festivities for the Bulldogs.
Konawa (2-6, 0-5) is coming off a loss to Hartshorne last week, and will be embarking on its final road game of the season as it heads to Savanna.
The Bulldogs (1-6, 1-4) are coming off a road loss to Allen last week, but will be ready to bounce back within the friendly confines of their home field for one final time this season.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
CANADIAN AT TALIHINA (Cancelled)
The Canadian at Talihina game was cancelled, it was announced Tuesday.
The Cougars (1-6, 0-5) will next host Central Sallisaw in the season finale Nov. 2, while the Golden Tigers (4-4, 2-3) will host Pocola in its final game on Nov. 3.
