After slow start, Andrew Benintendi on pace for 20/20

Despite his low ADP and early-season struggles, Andrew Benintendi appears to be regaining the offensive form he displayed with the Boston Red Sox.

DREW SILVA: Andrew Benintendi never really met the lofty expectations that were thrust upon him in Boston after he showed so much promise in his first full season there back in 2017. And it looked like the Royals might be in for some sort of buyer's remorse after he struggled through most of April here in 2021.

But the script has flipped, Benintendi posted a 340 batting average at 377 on base percentage, and an 821 OPS, over 106 plate appearances in May. And on the first day of June, he popped a grand slam against the Pirates, as part of a five RBI game. Will he ever turn into the perennial 30 homer 20 stolen base fantasy superstar that his early career production suggested? Probably not.

But as it stands right now, Beninitendi is on pace for something close to a 2020 season, along with a batting average above 290. Which is highly encouraging and pretty darn exciting for a player whose average draft position soared out of the top 200 in most Yahoo leagues this spring.
