Oddsmakers project a tight series between Sixers and Hawks originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
The regular season means nothing once you get to the playoffs.
That couldn’t be any truer when you look at the Sixers and the Hawks. The Sixers won two of the three meetings against Atlanta. However, both teams were never fully healthy when they squared off.
Unfortunately, that’s going to be the same narrative to some degree as Joel Embiid’s health remains in question after being diagnosed with a small lateral meniscus tear in his right knee.
Since there is so much uncertainty surrounding Embiid, the Sixers opened as a mere 2.5-point home favorite against the Hawks in Sunday’s 1 p.m. game (odds courtesy of NBC Sports betting partner PointsBet).
Not to be Debbie Downer but the Sixers have lost nine straight Conference Semifinals Game 1’s and have won only one of their last 10 Conference Semifinals series. That one series victory came in 2001 vs. the Raptors.
As for this series, the Sixers are currently -200 ($20 bet to win $10) to advance to the Conference Finals while the Hawks are +160.
Those numbers have already dropped as the opening lines had the Sixers at -250 and Hawks at +200.
Buckle up Sixers fans! From a sportsbook perspective, this has all the makings of being a tight series. The Hawks are certainly not the Wizards. The numbers will tell you that as the Sixers opened as -1000 favorites to win the series against Washington.
