Sixers star Joel Embiid ranks 10th in early MVP rankings after big week

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is coming off an incredible week where he averaged 40 points and 11 rebounds for the four games he played. That type of elite production allowed him to win the Player of the Week award in the Eastern Conference.

The big fella has been able to work his way back to being an MVP candidate after a relatively slow start for him to the season. For Embiid, that “slow start” was averaging 27 points per game, but the efficiency was not there and it appeared that he would not be able to get back to MVP form again.

He quickly put those thoughts to bed and he is back in the MVP rankings by Bleacher Report as they have him tied for 10th in the rankings with Kevin Durant:

Embiid is averaging 40.0 points, 5.3 assists, 2.8 blocks and 16.5 free-throw attempts since rejoining the Philadelphia 76ers rotation four games ago. He hasn’t played enough to be placed any higher, but his case will continue to strengthen while James Harden is sidelined.

The Sixers are in the middle of having four days off before they take on the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday. That will be another opportunity for Embiid to throw the Sixers on his back and make a statement against 2-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
