Sixers’ Mac McClung talks possibly winning G League MVP, championship

Philadelphia 76ers two-way guard Mac McClung has been putting up big performances in the G League with the team’s affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. McMclung is averaging 19.8 points and 4.9 assists while shooting 47.4% from deep as he continues to make a push for a position in the NBA.

The Sixers signed McClung to a two-way deal shortly before the All-Star break back in February and then he put on a show during the slam dunk contest. He put on one helluva performance and was the talk of the NBA for weeks.

McClung sat down with Shams Charania of The Athletic, FanDuel, and The Stadium and he opened up on his NBA push, possibly winning the G League MVP and the G League championship. The Blue Coats begin the G League playoffs on Thursday afternoon.

McClung on his season

“I just wanted to show everybody how I can really adapt to any situation. I feel like I’ve done that this year. I’ve been put in a bunch of different roles and I feel like I’ve executed each one. Just trying to show the NBA that I can fit in any role and you want me to be a shooter, you want me to be a point guard, you want me to be—whatever you want me, I can do that.”

McClung on G League MVP vs. a championship

“The main goal is always to win a championship so I’m glad we’re still in the hunt for that and that’s the main goal right now. Individual goals, like I felt like I never get attached to any certain thing like that. So whatever comes I’ll be honored and blessed, but, I’m just really focused on winning a championship.”

On the 2024 slam dunk contest

“I’ll come up with some things. I have a couple I didn’t do that I don’t think have been seen before, but I’ll create some new things and if I’m invited again, I’ll do my best to be prepared and try to invent some new dunks.”
