Sixers guard Shake Milton has return date in mind, but won’t share it

Philadelphia 76ers guard Shake Milton is scheduled to miss his eighth straight game on Wednesday when the team takes on the Orlando Magic at home. This is due to a back contusion injury that he suffered on Jan. 3 in a win over the Houston Rockets at home that has bothered him.

The Sixers have missed Milton’s ability to put the ball on the floor for the second unit and his ability to score off the bench. He averages 10.5 points so that is a big miss for the bench group in terms of being able to have somebody who can hop off the bench and score for them.

With that in mind, Milton gave an update on how he is feeling on Wednesday before the team took on the Magic.

“Once I got hit, my back just kind of—a combination of like spasms and just really tightening and locking up,” said Milton. “Since then, just through treatment and acupuncture, massage therapy, and all kinds of stuff. I’m moving better. I’m finally able to get on the court a little bit and move around. So it’s been feeling better for sure.”

As far as a potential return date, Milton has one in mind, but he won’t share it just yet.

“I have a date targeted,” Milton added. “I don’t even really want to share it, but soon for sure. I mean, the more I get out there and able to just go run up and down, you know what I mean? Play like 5-on-5 and get some real good runs in. I’ll be good to go.”

Coach Doc Rivers did give an update on Milton recently and he said he could beat him in a race. Even with the back feeling better, Rivers added that he can still do so. That gives the indication that he is still a ways away.

“No, I think I can still beat him which is not good, obviously,” said Rivers. “It’s his back, the whole thing from the fall. Hopefully, it’ll release at some point and give him some comfort. I don’t think he’s very comfortable right now.”
