With the Women's National Teams returning to the pitch in Sept., it was announced this week that six Portland Thorns players have been called up to their respective national teams.

For the upcoming international window, Thorns midfielders Crystal Dunn and Lindsey Horan, defender Becky Sauerbrunn and forward Sophia Smith were called up by the U.S. Women's National Team.

The USWNT will play two friendlies against Paraguay this month beginning with training camp that kicks off on Sept. 14.

The U.S. will take on Paraguay on Thursday, Sept. 16 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. The second friendly will be held Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Cincinnati’s new TQL Stadium. 

Two other Portland players will be heading to international play as well.

The Costa Rica women's national team called up Thorns midfielder Rocky Rodríguez for two friendlies against Panama at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose.

Those matches are slated for Sept. 18 and Sept 21.

While Thorns FC midfielder Natalia Kuikka was called up by Finland for a 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.

That match will be played on Sept. 21 at Veritas Stadion in Turku, Finland.

Before international duty, the Thorns will visit the North Carolina Courage on Sunday at noon PT.
