Simone Biles Fuels Up With Foods Like Pizza And S'mores Cookies

From Women's Health

Gold medal gymnast Simone Biles, 23, is gearing up for her second Olympics. After adjusting her sights from 2020 to 2021, she's back to long days in the gym and loading up on feel-good foods to keep her the winning track.

Though Biles is super serious about her training (she spends six to seven hours a day getting after it), she takes a more mindful approach to her what goes on her plate.

When it comes to food, Simone follows her intuition. "I do not track anything," she tells Women's Health. "I eat what I feel good with and try not to overeat or stuff myself because I'm always at the gym."

In fact, Simone has always taken great care in maintaining a healthy relationship with food. "For gymnasts, in particular, [tracking] can lead to health problems and eating issues, so I just eat what I know I can and should."

That leaves plenty of room for convenient food, which is such a big part of Simone's diet that she recently teamed up with Uber Eats (and recorded a *hysterical* video with Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness in the process).

Here's exactly what Simone eats in a day to perform at her best and feel darn good, too.

Breakfast

Simone's workouts dictate her day, from when she wakes up to when she breaks for meals. "I wake up so early before practice, which is at seven, so sometimes I'll grab a quick bite and sometimes I won't," she says. When she does have time to eat, she goes for oatmeal or fruit.

She doesn't need caffeine to get going, either."I've never been a coffee drinker," Simone says. "I've always been somewhat of a morning person." Usually, she drinks plenty of water throughout morning practice.

Post-workout, Simone sips on a protein shake to recover and refuel quickly. "I love having a Core Power Protein Shake after a workout," she says. "Usually I drink half after the first practice and half after the second practice. One of my favorite flavors at the moment is vanilla. It always changes, but it's currently vanilla."

On weekends, though, Simone's breakfast routine is a bit more relaxed. "On the weekends, I'll have some protein waffles with chocolate chips, some eggs, or even make cinnamon rolls," she says. "Because I might not have to be at the gym, I can actually take the time to make breakfast."

Lunch

When Simone gets home from practice around 11 a.m., she's ready for lunch, which she often orders through Uber Eats and ranges from pepperoni pizza to salmon to sushi.

"I feel like it's more manageable because I can get home, shower, and go on the app to order whatever I want with the click of a button," she says. "If I cook, though, it's usually pasta, or chicken or salmon in the air fryer, oven, or on the grill."

She also tries to throw in some veggies. Her favorites include asparagus, broccoli, carrots, corn, green beans, peas, and potatoes. "I love potatoes in any shape or form," she says. (Same, girl.) Which she ultimately chooses depends on her mood and what she's craving that day.

Snacks

Since Simone is often on-the-move, she generally sticks to eating just at mealtimes. "I don't really snack too too much because I'm always at the gym, but if I do, I try to snack on some fruit." Grapes, strawberries, and bananas are her faves, but she's not opposed to watermelon, either.

Simone is also a fan of banana bread and banana muffins. "It all depends on how I feel, but when I splurge, I have like popcorn or pretzels and Nutella, stuff like that, as a snack."

Basically, nothing is officially off the table for her. "The only food that I don't really like to eat is anything with coconut in it," she says. "For some reason, I don't particularly like that taste, but anything else, I'm pretty good."

Dinner

At dinner, which comes after a few more hours at the gym, Simone listens to her body. "If I'm feeling like a little bit of a less healthy meal, I get pizza or fettuccine Alfredo with chicken," she says. "I really like home restaurants that are in the area because I feel like I get to be closer with them. I'm not picky. I'll try any new restaurant."

Dessert

Simone doesn't have a big sweet tooth, but she makes space for dessert when a craving strikes. "I have to be in a dessert mood and that usually happens more often when I'm out of town," she says. "I find myself looking at local places on Uber Eats for cookies or ice cream or both." At home, she'll go for cookies or strawberries and whipped cream.

"I do bake chocolate chip cookies myself and whenever I do I usually make s'mores cookies," she says. "I put a graham cracker at the bottom, marshmallows and chocolate on the top, and then I wrap it in cookie dough and bake it. That's my favorite cookie to bake." Umm, YUM?!

Drinks

Occasionally, Simone will have a bit of booze. "I do like having a drink on the weekends," she says. Her go-to's are a glass of wine or a margarita.

Nothing comes between Simone and her sleep, though. "Earlier than 10:30 p.m. is my target time. I'm usually in bed by 9:30 p.m., so I'm asleep before then."
