On the sidelines with Poolville junior volleyball player Emery Bryan

Feb. 6—Get to know Poolville junior volleyball player Emery Bryan on and off the court.

You've received all-state recognition multiple years in a row. Talk about all the hard work you've put into your craft on the volleyball court?

"I've been playing volleyball for a while now, and I've just been working as hard as I can. I've put in a lot of time playing both for school and for club. After receiving all-state recognition my sophomore year, that motivated me to play at a higher level to do it again my junior year."

You did it all for Poolville this past season with 429 kills, 221 digs, 152 assists 116 aces and 49 blocks. How important has it been for you as a volleyball player to be sure you are very versatile in your skills?

"I think it's very important to be versatile. Most people think it's weird because I'm a middle and a setter, but I think it's important to do whatever your team needs you to do and to play all the positions you're needed in."

Who or what is the reason you started playing volleyball?

"I never touched a volleyball until I came to Poolville. It's a very small school, so everybody does everything. Once I started, it's something I realized that I loved and enjoyed playing."

What are some goals you have for yourself and for the team in your senior season next year?

"I've been playing with the girls that I'm going into senior season with since junior high. We've already talked about our goals for this year and making it a really good, fun year. We want to maintain a tradition with our competitive program and leave it better than we found it. I hope while going through this season, I hope I can reach my goal of earning a college scholarship."

If you won a million dollars, what is the first thing you'd spend money on and why?

"I would go get a blacked-out, lifted Bronco because it's always been my dream car, and then I would drive it to the bank and count all my money."

What is the most exotic meal or dish you have eaten in your lifetime?

"I haven't eaten anything too crazy, but I've had eel and oysters, which is kind of exotic."

When you aren't playing or practicing volleyball, what do you like to do with your free time?

"In my free time, I spend a lot of time with my family."

Which team are you going to pull for in this year's Super Bowl — the San Francisco 49ers or the Kansas City Chiefs? Why?

"I would say the Kansas City Chiefs because they're the only team I really know who the players are."
