Illinois women's basketball coach Shauna Green joined host Mike Haile in the WHMS studio this morning ahead of the start of the 2023-24 season.

Among the many topics: Field Trip Day at State Farm Center.

A year ago, area students turned out in a big way, lending their voice to an Illini rout — 100-38 against McNeese State — in front of a crowd of 8,141.

"Unbelievable turnout," Green said today. "The kids have so much fun and you can hear them screaming. They don't know what they're screaming at, but they're just screaming. It's nonstop the entire game.

"Such a great atmosphere."

The promotion is back, with Illinois taking on Saint Peter's at 11 a.m. Nov. 15 with free admission as part of the field-trip day initiative.

The Illini open the season ranked No. 23.

"I'm really proud," she said. "It means a lot to have the respect of people around the country. Now it's time to get to work."
