Shaquille O’Neal talks ‘crazy’ weight loss goals after dropping 55 lbs.
Shaquille O’Neal is opening up about his “crazy” weight loss goals and the experience of shedding 55 pounds.
The 7-foot-1 former Laker, 51, now weighs in at 351 pounds but told Entertainment Tonight he’s “probably gonna get between 315 and 330.”
“I got a couple people involved — it’s all about eating right,” Shaq told the outlet late last year, after a friend calling him fat pushed the basketball icon to get blood work done. “I was the athlete — I wasn’t a salad eater. I won’t pay attention to any of that. I don’t care about none of that.”
Shaq admitted that he “didn’t know what the difference [was] between a carb and a protein,” adding that when he took a doctor’s advice to do things such as eat more vegetables, he quickly started shedding pounds.
Shaq also went on to credit his weight loss to supplements, shakes and trips to the gym.
“The weight just fell off,” said Shaq, who jokingly referred to his prior self as “Charles Barkley, a.k.a. fat.”
“I’m not at 100% ninja mode yet. I’m still 75%,” he added.
The Miami Heat alum last weighed in at 315 in 2006, when he was responsible for helping the team win their first NBA title. Shaq’s current weight is just above the 345 pounds he weighed in 2000, when he was a Laker celebrating his first championship in the league.
