Wall-Westbrook trade 'could still come alive,' per Charania originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Wizards fans and Rockets fans alike have been keeping their ears pinned for updates on the reportedly discussed blockbuster trade that would send John Wall to Houston and bring Russell Westbrook to the nation's capital.

It's still very early in the rumor mill, and there's no guarantee anything comes to pass between the two franchises. But even though nothing happened prior to the start of NBA free agency, that doesn't mean talks have shut down entirely.

"I'm told that is something that could still come alive this offseason," NBA insider Shams Charania said during a Stadium NBA free agency stream. "But right now, talks on that remain kind of where they're at."

There have been rumors about a James Harden deal as well, perhaps to join forces with Kevin Durant in Brooklyn. But according to Charania, that isn't in the Rockets' plans right now, even as they explore deals for their other star guard.

"They want to continue to build around James Harden," Charania said. "They want to continue to add and replenish talent around this team, keep PJ Tucker and really compete."

Charania does go on to reiterate that a Westbrook deal "could very well be something that they do at some point this offseason," but there's no guarantee that, if it does come to pass, it happens with the Wizards. But both franchises are clearly exploring all avenues to improve their rosters going into the 2020-21 NBA season.
