Shams: ‘Celtics have engaged in conversations’ with 76ers on potential Ben Simmons trade

The Boston Celtics have reportedly been in trade talks with the Philadelphia 76ers regarding a potential Ben Simmons trade, but Celtics fans (and truthfully, anyone who is not a Philadelphia 76ers fan) aren’t going to like it, given Jaylen Brown would be the hypothetical centerpiece of such a trade.

“The Boston Celtics have engaged in conversations with the 76ers revolving around Simmons and expressed interest in the 6-foot-11 guard,” wrote Charania in an article published Monday morning. “Talks have been fluid with no traction as of yet, those sources say. Any potential Simmons deal with the Celtics would have to include All-Star forward Jaylen Brown, an ascending talent who is in the midst of another career season, averaging 25.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists.”

Perhaps there is indeed a world where someone on the Celtics’ payroll actually believes it would be a good idea to bring on a faulted player who has demonstrated a capability of being a bigger locker room problem than anything Boston has seen in over a generation (and this counting the Kyrie Irving era).

If it is a serious inquiry, we want no part of it.

More likely, this is a well-crafted nod to forces with an interest in their being the potential for traction in the future — we’ll let you sort out who all that might be for yourselves.

Fight for freedom! Stand with Jaylen Brown.
