Several local grapplers advance to semis at D-10 tournament

Feb. 24—SHARON — Conneaut, Cambridge, Cochranton, Maplewood and Saegertown all wrestled in day one of the District 10 Class 2A Championships on Friday.

Saegertown was the only school to send two wrestlers to the semifinal round, with the others sending one.

Carter Beck and Travis Huya of Saegertown both advanced to the semifinals. Chase Blake of Maplewood, Cash Morrell of Cochranton, Brody Beck of Cambridge and Hunter Gould of Conneaut advanced as well.

Conneaut has 12.5 total team points and sent one wrestler to the consolation bracket. Cambridge finished with 13.5 total team points and sent two wrestlers to the consolation bracket. Cochranton sent five wrestlers to the consolation bracket, finishing with 16.5 total team points. Maplewood and Saegertown both sent four wrestlers to the consolation bracket. Maplewood finished with 20 total team points while Saegertown finished with 27 total team points.

The semifinals will take place at Sharon High School today, with the top eight wrestlers advancing to the NorthWestern Regional Finals in Sharon on March 1 and 2.
