NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) -- Seton Hall starter Noah Thompson was ejected after two innings before four relievers combined to finish off the Pirates' third no-hitter in the last four seasons, a 7-0 victory over Iona on Saturday.
Thompson struck out three, but was tossed from the game before the start of the third inning for what the umpires deemed was a foreign substance on one of his arms. Tyler Burnham (1-1) came in and went 3 2/3 innings to earn the win, Nick Payero got four outs, Hunter Waldis pitched the eighth and Sean Miller finished with a hitless ninth. The five combined for 14 strikeouts and eight walks.
The Pirates (9-13) have had some sparkling pitching performances in recent seasons. Zach Prendergast threw a no-hitter at Villanova in 2017, while Shane McCarthy tossed a perfect game against LIU-Brooklyn in 2016.
Casey Dana led Seton Hall's offense with three hits and four RBIs, including driving in the first run of the game in the opening inning.
Hunter Sibley (1-4) started for Iona (6-19) and allowed six runs, including four earned, and five hits in three innings. It was the first time the Gaels were no-hit since Lehigh tossed one against them in 2015.
