Seth Curry discusses ankle injury as Nets continue stretch run

Brooklyn Nets guard Seth Curry made a strong impact in his return to the lineup on Friday, ending a three-game absence.

In the Nets’ 128-123 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, he finished with 27 points with seven made 3s. Aside from Kevin Durant, no player scored more points than him in the game while accounting for 70 percent of their makes from beyond the arc.

Curry explained he’s been dealing with his ankle injury for “probably a month” before the trade that sent him to the Nets. He will have to manage the injury throughout the rest of the season until he gets more time to rest in the offseason.

“I was dealing with it probably a month before the trade. It’s been a while,” Curry said. “Just something I’m going to have to manage and deal with until the offseason.”

With the training and coaching staff, Curry has a plan to manage the injury, given it’s “not going to go away.” Right now, the priority is to ensure it does not get worse.

“It’s a plan put together with the training staff, coaches, and just figuring out how it goes. I know it’s something that’s not going to go away,” Curry added. “As long as it’s not getting worse, I should be good.”

With defenses loading up on Kevin Durant, the Nets missed Curry’s complementary skill-set to make teams pay. His presence holds more weight when factoring in Kyrie Irving remains ineligible for the team’s home games.

The Nets’ addition of Goran Dragic in the buyout market could prove to be helpful in the team’s efforts of managing Curry’s ankle injury throughout the stretch run of the regular season and playoffs.
