Senior day heroics end Texas’ regular season on a high note

No. 22 Texas (39-17, 14-10) capped off the regular season on a high note with a thrilling 11-6 victory over Kansas.

Down 5-0 in the fifth inning, the Longhorns comeback started off the bat of Mitchell Daly who launched a solo shot over the left-field bullpen to get Texas on the board. An Ivan Melendez sacrifice fly made cut the Jayhawks lead to 5-2 heading into the seventh.

Texas put together some two-out magic in the seventh inning scoring five runs, capped off by this Skyler Messinger grand slam.

The bats stayed hot in the next inning as Eric Kennedy, Murphy Stehly and Austin Todd went deep to extend the Texas lead to 11-6. A special moment for the senior trio in what could be their last games in Austin.

Up next for Texas is the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Texas will take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys Wednesday morning. A strong showing in Arlington would give the Horns a strong resume to become a top-16 regional host.
